RAAF : Unraveled

RAAF stands for Rotterdam Art Adventure and Food. But where does RAAF come from? RAAF is based in Feijenoord and was once a small art gallery called: ‘Art platform the Kapsalon’ (the barbershop in Dutch). This Gallery opened in an old barbershop but soon expanded. For two years the Kapsalon presented eccentric and experimental exhibitions in Bloemfonteinstraat. It was a wild mix of local art, neighbours, good food, and a diverse programs. When the Kunstplatform was closed due to a planned demolition of the street, RAAF was born. The Right to Answer

In addition to the opening of RAAF, we will also launch the first exhibition called: ‘The Right to Answer’ – a project about education. The idea behind the project is to show that while the right to education, knowledge and self-development in a country like the Netherlands seems self-evident, in many other countries people are deprived or blocked from this right. Knowledge and self-development are closely linked to cooperation and to expressing your opinion. So, for this project we’ve collaborated with various Rotterdam-based visual designers who each give their interpretation of the theme and on the other hand, with youngsters from Rotterdam South who will textually work on a poster [...]
FOOD

Enjoy a nice lunch with a cup of coffee or maybe a whole pot of tea as you sit down with a friend? At RAAF you can chill out but also plugin your laptop to finish your latest assignments while enjoying a fresh piece of pie. Connect to the wireless internet if needed and enjoy the RAAF atmosphere. RAAF offers programs filled with debate, films, music, workshops, and exhibits. But we also like to go on adventures and participate in festivals and events in the area. Make unexpected new friends and see exciting exhibitions – there’s never a dull moment!

Chill out at RAAF’s lunchroom with a livingroom atmosphere. But it’s also a place you can get some work done. Whether you’re having a meetings, doing schoolwork, working on your portfolio, or just chilling out with friends, you’ll always have the smell of fresh cookies and nice background music.
